Are you looking for a new career this new year? If so, you’re not alone – thousands of others are in your shoes. Thankfully, there are plenty of great jobs out there that are yours for the taking.

Ready to find the career you’ve always wanted? Do you have enough audacity to begin yet another job search, even if your other searches were unsuccessful? Can you stretch yourself to believe that good things are coming your way in 2016? If so, you can have the job (and life) you dream of.

How to Find Your Dream Job in 2016

Any unemployed individual will tell you that finding a job isn’t always easy. This is especially true if you’ve been without work for a long time. It seems like the longer one is unemployed, the more downtrodden he or she becomes. This leads to apathy and avoidance of searching for a new job. This is a vicious cycle, but it can be broken. How? By taking the following steps:

#1 – Know your strengths – Do you know what you are good at? Are you sure about what you’d like to do for work? If not, find out what your greatest strengths are. Chances are, you enjoy what you are great at doing. Once you have a clear picture of your strengths and desires for work, you can confidently move forward in your job search.

#2 – Know your weaknesses – You may know what you are good at and would like to do professionally. But, do you know what you are not good at? This is of equal importance. If you are weak in customer service, or if you truly dislike it, do not waste your time looking into careers that entail lots of customer service. Knowing your weaknesses and dislikes can shave weeks off of your career search by preventing you from applying to jobs you would be unsuccessful in.

#3 – Grow a thicker skin – Most people know how to search for a job, but they don’t know how to stick with a career search when the going gets rough. Frankly, if you are committed to finding your dream job, you will probably have some setbacks in your journey. The thicker your skin is and the more resilient you are to disappointment, the better. Hang in there and you WILL reach your career goals.

#4 – Don’t go it alone – Have you been fruitlessly searching for a job for several weeks or months? If so, it’s time to enlist some help. In fact, rookie job searchers can save themselves time by seeking the services of a career recruiter from the get-go. Recruiters know people who know people and are experts at networking. Let a career recruiter do some of the legwork so you can focus on your resume and interview skills.

#5 – Don’t shy away from a temporary position – There is nothing more stressful than not having the money to pay your bills. Relieve this burden by accepting temporary work. It may not be ideal, but it will add more experience to your resume and put money in your bank account while you search for your dream job.

Walt Disney said, “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” If you are willing to put yourself out there and commence an honest job search, you can find your dream career in 2016.
