Our client—the Manitoba Métis Federation—was established in 1967 to provide democratic, responsible, and accountable governance on behalf of Red River Métis using constitutional authorities delegated by their own Citizens. The MMF delivers programs and services in the sectors of child and family services; justice; housing; youth; education; human resources; economic development and natural resources.

In this new role as the Director of Languages, you will lead the Michif Language Unit, and spearhead the development and execution of programs and services aligning with strategic goals set by the Cabinet. Your responsibilities will encompass managing the Unit’s administration, finances, and programs, including overseeing budgetary matters, and supervising administrative staff.

WHAT YOU WILL DO AS DIRECTOR OF LANGUAGES:
* Play a pivotal role in facilitating communication between the Unit and the Minister, keeping them informed on departmental progress through regular briefing notes; stay attuned to current issues vital to the Red River Métis, craft briefing materials, and coordinate meetings with various stakeholders, internally and externally.
* Apply expertise in managing the Unit’s resources effectively, ensuring alignment with the evolving needs of Métis communities regarding Michif and French Language initiatives; assist in strategic planning, identify resource opportunities, and report regularly to senior management on operational, financial, and partnership matters.
* Collaborate and forge partnerships with other departments, affiliates, educational institutions, and government bodies, fostering a cohesive approach to language preservation and promotion; manage funding agreements, monitor program compliance, and oversee the development of the Unit’s annual reports and audits.
* Oversee HR functions within the Unit, from recruitment and training to performance evaluation, fostering a culture of excellence and adherence to organizational policies; lead and maintain effective communication channels, identify training needs, and support staff development.
* Practice financial stewardship: develop and manage budgets, ensure fiscal accountability, and adhere to financial policies and procedures; oversee project management, ensuring efficient operations and compliance with Federation guidelines.
* Maintain responsibility for a wide range of duties aimed at advancing Michif and French Language initiatives, upholding organizational standards, and supporting the overall mission of the Red River Métis.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN A DIRECTOR OF LANGUAGES:
* Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field of study
* Prior experience in a leadership capacity focusing on contemporary management practices, human resources, communications, research and program development
* Proven organizational, financial, and administrative acumen
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, coupled with presentation experience
* Proficiency in proposal writing
* Fluency in Michif and/or French is highly advantageous
* Familiarity with local, federal, and provincial resources
* Knowledge of Métis culture, as well as MMF programs and services, is a significant asset
