YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS HUMAN RESOURCE SAFETY SPECIALIST:
* Ensure compliance with corporate safety policies and procedures across multiple branches, meeting all relevant provincial legislative and regulatory requirements (e.g., WHMIS, accident investigation, lockout procedures, first aid, forklift certification, training, etc.).
* Maintain up-to-date certifications for all safety programs and personnel.
* Support the development and execution of health and safety programs, including SOPs, policies, and training initiatives that reduce risk and promote a positive safety culture.
* Lead the identification and resolution of hazards across all locations, including risk assessment, communication with corporate, implementation of corrective actions, and maintenance of FGI’s MSDS records.
* Respond to human resource and safety-related concerns and complaints from employees and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
* Support investigations of workplace incidents (accidents, near-misses, and injuries), ensuring compliance with WCB/WSIB requirements and corporate policies.
* Support workplace audits and inspections to ensure a safe working environment and identify any potential safety or health risks.
* Manage all occupational and non-occupational injury and illness claims, including the development of suitable accommodation plans and return-to-work strategies.
* Develop and monitor individualized return-to-work plans that align job demands with employee capabilities.
* Prepare for and support COR certification and other relevant health and safety accreditation programs.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN A HUMAN RESOURCE SAFETY SPECIALIST:
* Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Human Resources, or a related field.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in a health and safety and/or human resources
* Proven experience in managing return-to-work programs and claims management is required.
* Familiarity with COR and/or other safety management systems is preferred.
* Strong knowledge of provincial labour standards, safety legislation, disability management, and return-to-work practices.
* Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development (e.g., CPD programs).
* CPHR or Safety related designation is considered an asset.
