Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Taylor McCaffrey LLP, one of Manitoba’s leading law firms, is seeking to hire a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to manage all operational functions of the firm. Headquartered in Winnipeg, the firm is deeply committed to the Manitoba community, with over 60 lawyers practicing in numerous specialty areas.

Above all, Taylor McCaffrey is looking for a COO who will strategically manage the firm’s structure, operations, and future growth.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial analysis and strategic business planning and have a solid foundation in information technology management. Beyond the technical functions of the role, this company is looking for a person whose personal core values align with those of their business – someone for whom integrity, ethical decision making, and collaborative leadership are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise Management Committee on strategic planning, risk management, and policy development objectives.
  • Liaise and seek guidance from the firm’s Management Committee and partners
  • Work closely with senior management team members to develop actionable business strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short- and long-term objectives developed by the Management Committee.
  • Identify and develop, together with the Director of Finance, comprehensive financial reporting systems that meet the firm’s overall strategic goals
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure, including systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the overall objectives of the firm
  • Develop key performance indicators and formal reporting to the Management Committee that identify opportunities and, if necessary, corrective measures.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with lawyers and staff
  • Oversee daily operations of the firm, including maintenance of premises and equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 7+ years of C-suite level management experience (professional services environment an asset)
  • Proven financial management, reporting, and analysis expertise
  • Post-secondary degree in finance, business, or a related field (CPA and/or MBA preferred)
  • Experience managing high performing professionals
  • High comfort level with information technology management
  • Experience in policy development
  • Background in and/or knowledge of legal services an asset
