You can find just about anything on the Internet—including breaking news about your industry. Visit www.google.com/alerts and set up free alerts on your industry, your company and your competitors. Each time a news story or other update is published on the Internet related to your search criteria, Google will notify you. This is a great way to stay current and make sure you can stay a leg-up on the competition.
Social Media
Social Media is not just about looking at funny pictures of your friend’s cat wearing a tutu. Social media presents some outstanding ways to stay up-to-speed with what’s happening in the market. Join industry specific groups on LinkedIn and monitor and contribute to conversations. “Like” interesting companies or groups on Facebook. Finally, conduct advanced searches on Twitter (http://search.twitter.com/advanced) for your company and competitors—just like Google Alerts you can sign-up for free updates.
